{"id":339,"date":"2010-03-08T20:37:21","date_gmt":"2010-03-09T01:37:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thewannabegourmet.com\/?p=339"},"modified":"2023-12-07T14:09:03","modified_gmt":"2023-12-07T19:09:03","slug":"gingerbread-with-citrus-sauce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thewannabegourmet.com\/?p=339","title":{"rendered":"Gingerbread with citrus sauce"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style='text-align:left' class='yasr-auto-insert-visitor'><\/div><p><a href=\"https:\/\/thewannabegourmet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/gingerslice.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-338\" title=\"gingerslice\" src=\"https:\/\/thewannabegourmet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/gingerslice.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thewannabegourmet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/gingerslice.jpg 500w, https:\/\/thewannabegourmet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/gingerslice-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Gingerbread <\/strong>(sauce recipe below)<\/p>\n<p>\u00bd cup butter, softened<br \/>\n\u00bd cup brown sugar (packed)<br \/>\n1 egg<br \/>\n1 cup molasses<br \/>\n2 tsp baking soda<br \/>\n1 cup boiling water<br \/>\n3 cups all purpose flour<br \/>\n1 tbsp ground ginger<br \/>\n\u00bd tsp cinnamon<br \/>\n\u00bc tsp salt<br \/>\n\u00bc tsp ground cloves<\/p>\n<p>Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, again, beating until light and fluffy. Stir in the molasses until incorporated.<\/p>\n<p>Dissolve the baking soda in the boiled water. Set aside.<\/p>\n<p>Sift together the flour, cinnamon, ginger, salt and cloves. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternately w\/ the boiling water. Mix only until blended, making sure not to over mix the batter.<\/p>\n<p>Spoon into a greased 9 inch pan and bake at 350 F 45-55 minutes (until cake tester comes out clean).<\/p>\n<p>Cut into squares and serve warm w\/ a lemon sauce (below).<\/p>\n<p>Lemon (or lime, or orange) Sauce:<\/p>\n<p>\u00bd cup sugar<br \/>\n2 tbsp Corn Starch<br \/>\n1 cup water<br \/>\n\u00bc cup butter<br \/>\n1 tsp lemon peel (finely grated or lime or orange depending upon the citrus you are using just substitute it for the lemon)<br \/>\n\u00bc cup lemon (or lime, or orange) juice<\/p>\n<p>In small pan bring water to a boil over medium heat. Add the sugar and cornstarch, stirring well to avoid lumps. Reduce heat and stir until mixture is thick and translucent (5 mins.).<\/p>\n<p>Remove from heat and stir in the remaining ingredients until well mixed.
